Insight Pharmaceuticals Company Background
Headquartered in Langhorne, PA, Insight Pharmaceuticals was founded to acquire niche consumer OTC drug products from larger companies, focusing on their biggest brands. The company's philosophy is to earn customer (retailer) loyalty and build consumer affinity by offering effective medications which target specific health needs, providing them with maximum relief of their symptoms. Insight has recently begun a campaign to re-establish these brands in the marketplace through focused consumer and trade marketing support.
Initial products in the portfolio were acquired from GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, and Schering Plough, and include such notable brands as Sucrets® Sore Throat and Cough Lozenges, N'Ice® Lozenges, Allerest and Nostrilla® Nasal Spray. In 2003, several additional brands joined the Insight line-up, including the Nix® Lice Treatment, Bonine® Travel Sickness Relief brands acquired from Pfizer and Anacin® Pain Reliever from Wyeth.
For the trade, Insight Pharmaceutical offers significant margin contributions on well recognized brands that "turn" at retail. The required level of trade discount pricing at the shelf is minimal as these are products that meet a specific consumer need and have built-in demand.
Insight Pharmaceuticals is well-financed and will continue on a very aggressive acquisition growth strategy to add more niche brands in the future. The primary criteria for acquisition screening are recognized brands in stable categories that deliver good margins to both the trade and the company.
